Schools

Workshops & Writing Competition
Writers and artists will be running workshops in schools in Haringey and Islington .

Writing Competition
Children and young people from the schools will take part in a series of stimulating workshops from early September which we hope will trigger off their own writing on the themes of human rights and children under uccupation.   Competition genres include: short fiction, poetry, rap, spoken word or factual writing.

Writers & performers
The schools’ workshops are being led by authors Anna Perera, Guatanemo Boy; Jamila Gavin, Coram Boy; Irfan Masters, A Beautiful Lie; poet Haroon Anwar; story teller Roisin Murray, More Than Stories; photojournalist William Parry and David Harrold & Mohmmed Altawil of the Palestine Trauma Centre

Workshops during Festival
Childrens’ workshops will continue to be a central theme of the festival itself on Sept Oct 1 when the same authors will offer workshops in festival venue, the West Green Learning Centre.  See main festival programme.

Reading aloud & prize giving
Childrens’ writers Michael Rosen and Anne Perera will listen to young people reading their entries to the schools writing competition as well as judging the winners and presenting prizes Sat October 1 at 3pm.

All participants will have a chance to be heard and receive a certificate for taking part on Saturday Oct 1 in a session facilitated by Michael Rosen and Anna Perera. The winners will receive book tokens from The Big Green Bookshop.

We hope this is just a beginning to our work on Palestine in Islington and Haringey schools. We are planning to bring all the writings together for display.
